Trip Program
San Gimignano, Siena and Monteriggioni Program
With this tour you can visit both countryside and medieval towns. We first stop in San Gimignano, the most charming Tuscan hill towns mostly knowed for its beautiful view over the countryside and the artisans shops of ceramic. This town still maintain its medieval style and here is produced the white Vernaccia wine, one of the few tuscany areas where the white wine is produced.
Then we drive to Siena famed for the "Palio", the annual historical horserace which takes place every summer in the typical square "del Campo". The shape of this square is unique and we can admire it drinking a good wine. This town is built on three hills, maintaining intact its medieval appareance. You will walk through the typical narrow streets of this medieval town in order to reach the top of the hill to visit the Cathedral, and the Baptistery square. Then don't miss to taste the "ricciarelli" and "panforte" which are only some the typical sweets made in this town. You 'll have to live this town in order to appreciate all its charming.
Monteriggioni. Seen from a distance, the Castle of Monteriggioni with its walls and remaining towers witnessing the distant past, gives an impression that time has come to a stand still. Every summer in July here takes place the Medieval Festival, an historical festivity during this occasion the entire inhabitants wear medieval dresses and the daily life of the village is animated with trade, crafts and domestic activities like in the medieval time. The atmosphere in some hours of the day is unique. Personally I heartly recommend a place to eat the best "pici" typical hand made pasta, the restaurant Il Pozzo, owned by the same family since years.Try it to believe...................
